Trophy Care
How to Cape Your Deer
Proper field care is the first step to a great mount. Follow these guidelines to protect your trophy from the moment it hits the ground.
How to Cape Your Deer
Follow the Cut Guide
Cut all the way around the body behind the front shoulders and as far back on the ribs as possible. This gives your taxidermist plenty of cape to work with.
Follow the Dotted Line
On the long-hair tan side, follow the line where brown meets white hair — cut along that natural seam up from the leg joint to the chest not into the brisket but to your mid section cut as pictured.
Preserve the Hide
Keep the cape cool and dry. Do not leave it in a warm truck or exposed to heat or water. Pack it in a cooler on ice (not in it) separated by a barrier to keep it dry and get it to us as soon as possible.
Please Bring Your Trophy In Caped Up the Neck
We will cape the head for you. If you cape the head yourself, be sure to leave plenty of material around the eyes, inside the nose, and mouth.
